Peter Jackson Honored With Knighthood By New Zealand Government

Peter JacksonWellington, New Zealand, Apr 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Wednesday the New Zealand government honored the Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson by making him the Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order Of Merit. The ceremony was held at Wellington, the capital of New Zealand and was carried out by the Governor-General Anand Satyanand who acted as the representative of the Queen Elizabeth II. The Knighthood which is considered as one of the greatest honors that the country confers on an individual was reinstated last year in New Zealand after it was abolished in 2000. The Knighthood for Peter Jackson was declared towards the end of last year as New Zealand’s annual New Year honors.

The elaborate ceremony saw Peter Jackson kneeling in front of the Governor-General who then tapped the former’s shoulder with a sword and confirmed his appointment as a knight. Peter Jackson who is a New Zealand native said that he has been “incredibly humbled” by the present honor that has been conferred upon him. The Oscar-winning director is known for having directed the brilliant trilogy of “The Lord of the Rings” series was awarded with the Knighthood for his contribution to the film industry.

Peter Jackson on Wednesday said that he was accepting this award on behalf of all the collaborators who have jointly worked with him to make his contributions to the film industry successful. Peter Jackson told in his speech that movie-making is not a “solo effort” and “involves thousands of people”. He therefore is not accepting the award on behalf of himself only but on behalf of the whole film industry.
