281x211Jan 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 36th People’s Choice Awards took place on Jan 6th in Los Angeles’s Nokia Theater. It was truly a star studded event with the leading media persons and Hollywood celebrities hogging the lime light. Around 60 million votes were cast to decide the fate of the most popular actors and celebs. Quite expectedly, Twilight, a vampire romance based on the bestseller novels of Stephanie Meyers won in 4 categories. Taylor Lautner, who made the girls go weak in the knees with his awesome muscular physique in New Moon, got the Favorite Breakout Movie Star award. Twilight also won the favorite movie award.

However, Kristen Stewart failed to win the Favorite Movie Actress. This award went to the sultry Sandra Bullock. She was the most probable candidate as her two films ‘The Blind Side’ and ‘The Proposal’ became huge hits last year. It was quite surprising to see the teen heartthrob Robert Pattinson losing out to Johnny Depp in Favorite Movie Actor category. The hype Robert Pattinson has been getting after the release of Twilight made many people believe he would win this award.

There were other surprises as well. Zoe Saldana won rave reviews for her performance in “Star Trek” and “Avatar”. However, that could not fetch her the Favorite Breakout Actress award. This award went to the Disney star Miley Cyrus. Taylor Swift won her first People’s Choice Award. She had won nominations in three categories. She looked charming and graceful in the award ceremony. Hunky Johnny Depp was also awarded as Actor of the Decade at the end of the ceremony.
