Celebrity chef Paula Deen’s former maid has been arrested, as she had stolen $100,000 in jewelry from her former employers. The police said that the maid – Mary Alice White had stolen the jewelry from Paula’s Georgia abode. There are also reports that she had stolen the jewelry, over a period of 10 months.
According to the Savannah Morning News, the 47-year-old maid tried to dispose of the jewelry at two different pawnshops, and she was also arrested twice in May. It is not known why she was released after being arrested for the first time, when she was caught red handed when she was trying to dispose off the jewelry in return for hard cash.
There is no report whether she posted bail, or was released on her own recognizance. There was no official comment from either Paula Deen or her husband.
The shop where she tried to pawn off the stolen jewelry tipped off the police, which eventually led to her arrest. Shop owner David Epstein said that, “I’ve seen everyone from bank presidents to doctors – everyone. But when you see a kid with an $18,000 piece of jewelry, you want to weed them out.”
