paulFeb 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Award-winning director Paul Haggis, who left Church of Scientology back in 2009, spoke for the first time about the Church to a reputed media outlet. The ace director gave an interview to a reputed magazine where he gave a small glimpse of the church’s works. While speaking about the Church, Paul Haggis said that he feels he was in a “cult” for about 34 years.

Paul Haggis told a reputed media outlet that he feels everybody surrounding him could see that he was in a “cult”. However, the director said that he does not know why he could not understand his mistake. While speaking about his past, Paul Haggis said that the Church of Scientology somehow gave him a sense of belonging and hence he was an active member of the Church. He also added that initially he felt there was a “feeling of camaraderie” among the members. However, now that the director has spoken against the Church of Scientology, he fears that the Church would retaliate soon. The screen writer of “Crash” said that within two years people will hear about him in a scandal but it would be framed in such a way that it would have nothing to do with Church of Scientology.

On the other hand, Church of Scientology criticized Paul Haggis’ comment in their statement. The official statement, the Church has termed it an “unfortunate” incident as the media outlet chose to introduce Church of Scientology to its readers through the eyes of an “apostate” who, in one word can be called as “unreliable” as he took advantage of the Church’s invitation and experienced its “practices and humanitarian works firsthand” to tarnish its reputation.
