Spammers will be spammers. As soon as the death news of the “Dirty Dancing” star Patrick Swayze broke out all over the net, hackers and spammers clogged in to utilize the death of the star in order to sell fake anti-virus software and to infect PCs with malware.
According to the security firm F-Secure, spam messages regarding Swayze’s death began to clog the net as soon as the reports regarding the star’s death surfaced. The F-Secure firm reports that the websites disguised as providing the news of the actor’s death lures the netizens to the malicious sites. These websites do contain words bearing the name Swayze, his illness and death, but does not provide a detailed account on the actor. Pop-ups are generated through these sites that issues a warning which says, “Your system requires an immediate anti-virus scan!! Total security can perform fast and free virus and malicious software scan of your computer.” The warning doesn’t stop here.
Further warnings are issued which is grammatically wrong and suggests that all these messages are nothing but a bunch of spams that is being operated by hackers and spammers. “Your computer remains infected by threats. They might lead to data loss and file structure damage, and needed to be heal as soon as possible. Return to the Total Security and download it secure to your PC,” says the warning. The obscure phrasing of words marred with illogical grammatical errors gradually suggests that these are nothing but spams.
The exploitation of the death of Patrick Swayze by the spammers is highly condemnable and illegal in the eyes of law.
