Patrick Swayze Patrick Wayne Swayze was born on August 18, 1952 and he died due to pancreatic cancer on September 14, 2009. He was an American actor par excellence, amazing dancer and a singer-lyricist too. His major Hollywood hits include Dirty Dancing, Ghost and as ‘Orry Main’ in the North and South television series. People’s magazine named him as the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ in 1991.

Dirty Dancing was his major hit which was filmed in North Carolina. As a tribute, the residents of North Carolina are holding a memorial service for him on Saturday, as a tribute. The venue of the memorial service is special too, it is at Firefly Cove, the very place that served as Camp Chimney in Dirty Dancing.

Since, the dancing sensation died of pancreatic cancer so the visitors to the memorial service will be asked to donate for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, out of their own free will, as a goodwill gesture for further research in pancreatic cancer.

Patrick Swayze’s hard-fought battle with cancer may be over, but his struggle still hasn’t ended. On September 29, celebrity biographer Atria will dedicate Patrick Swayze’s inspirational memoir, The Time of My Life, co-written with his wife, to his undying spirit. “Dance is a metaphor for life,” Patrick Swayze told EW in 2005. “You’re born. You peak. Your physical body goes downhill, but your spirit stays intact.”
