Paris Hilton denies standing up for drunk Indian elephantsNovember 29th, 2007 - 4:11 pm ICT by admin
Washington, Nov 29 (ANI): Paris Hilton has dismissed reports that she had spoken on behalf of the plight of drunk elephants in India.
Recently, British tabloid the Daily Star came out with reports that the socialite had offered a tearful plea about the elephant problem in India during a recent promotional visit to Asia and was leading a campaign to stop a herd of elephants killing themselves - after bingeing on alcohol.
In the story, which ran earlier this month, the hotel heiress was quoted as saying she was horrified to discover 40 of the animals were electrocuted after drinking rice-beer, which is brewed by locals in north-east India.
However, now Hilton has rubbished the reports, insisting the quotes were fabricated and she has no knowlegde of drunk elephants.
“I read that and I was like, `How would an elephant get alcohol in the first place? Why would I talk about that? Why would I care if an elephant got drunk? Can an elephant get drunk?’ I’ve never talked about that in my life. I didn’t even know an elephant could get drunk, Contactmusic quoted her, as telling Ellen Degeneres on Nov 28.
The former jailbird also asserted that the story, which became an international scoop, is just the latest in a long line of stories invented about her.
“They always put words in my mouth all over the press all the time. I just laugh at them now, she said.
It’s literally comedy every morning; we wake up reading these stories… My friends will send them on a BlackBerry to me and we’ll just laugh, she added. (ANI)
