October 20, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): You might remember Paoli Dam for her wonderful performance in ‘Shob Charitro Kalponik’ opposite Prosenjit Chatterjee. The actress has worked in a bevy of art-house and commercial films and she is slated to be the next Smita Patil of the Indian film industry. Recently we caught up with this dusky Bengali beauty. We asked Paoli about the roles she would not hesitate to give an arm for.
The first role that Paoli named was the character of Nita in Ritwik Ghatak’s ‘Meghe Dhaka Tara’. Paoli said that every time she watches the film she gets tears in her eyes. According to Paoli, the character of Nita in ‘Meghe Dhaka Tara’ has the potential to move the audience each and every time.
Paoli thinks that Nita is the perfect representative of the Bengali working class girl who takes every hurdle in her stride and emerges victorious at the end. Paoli also told us that Supriya Chowdhury did justice to the role and gave a human face to the character. Although Nita continues to be her favorite role, Paoli is not sure if she can play the character as well as Supriya Chowdhury, but she still wants try her hand at such characters. Paoli would also like to bag a character similar to Juliete Binoche in Krzysztof Kieslowski’s Three Colours Blue.
