October 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Episode 6.8 of ‘Top Chef: Las Vegas‘ took place in the ostentatious restaurants of master chef Charlie Palmer, Aureole in Mandalay By Resort and Casino at Las Vegas. The participants were expected to host one of Palmer’s extravagant ‘Pigs and Pinot’ affairs. No doubt a frightfully tough job, given the universal popularity of the said event and also the fact that it was watched over by none other than the original host, Palmer himself. He was the guest celebrity judge of the event.

Mentoring wannabe chefs is no new experience for Palmer, who has been doing this for a very long time indeed, but this is the first time he donned the cap of the food critic. The ‘cheftestants’, as the participants are called in this show, were asked to prepare pork dishes that would pair well with pinot noir and Alexia chips. They got to choose which part of the pork they would like to cook and also the wine they wanted to pair their cooked dishes with. In this episode, Kevin won the $15000 Quickfire, way better than the set of dishes he had won earlier. There can be no doubt that his culinary skills are indeed improving.

As usual, the show had it’s equal share of fun moments and spoilers. Mike I’s description of his dish was really entertaining as he kept punning on ‘I’. That is, until he was nudged on the elbow by Robin. Unfortunately, he rather spoiled the effect by talking mean about Robin, which were funny to some extent, but simply mean later.
