Oscars 2010: Geoffrey Fletcher wins the award for the Best Adapted Screenplay

2010 Oscar Beverly Hills, Mar 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Geoffrey Fletcher of ‘Precious’ has won the award for the Best Adapted Screenplay at the 82nd Academy Awards. While accepting the award, he said that he seemed flustered, and said that he didn’t know what to say. He thanked the cast and the crew of Precious who believed in him. He also thanked his family – 2 brothers, mother and father for supporting him in everything. He became very emotional while accepting the award, and was fighting his tears. This is the first Academy Award for the movie ‘Precious’, which has been nominated in other categories as well.

The other nominees for this honor were Neill Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell for District 9, Nick Hornby for An Education, Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci, Tony Roche for In the Loop and Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner for Up in the Air.

The venue of the 82nd Academy Awards is the Kodak Theatre. In this eventful evening, many winners have already been announced. ‘The Hurt Locker’ won the award for the Best Original Screenplay, where Christoph Waltz won the award for the Best Supporting Actor. Director Pete Docter has also picked up his very first Oscar for the animated flick ‘UP’ which won the Best Animated Film Award at the 82nd Academy Awards.
