Oscar winning actress Jennifer Jones dies, aged 90

Jennifer Jones Los Angeles, Dec 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Oscar wining actress Jennifer Jones died on Thursday. She was 90 years old. A family spokesman confirmed her death. She was nominated for the Academy Awards five times and she won it in the year 1943. She had a film career spanning more than 3 decades and she starred in around two dozen movies.

“She put herself completely in the hands of the director more than any other actress I have worked with,” director John Houston once said of her. “Jennifer took what you gave her and made it distinctly her own.”

A spokesman at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, which she had once chaired, confirmed her sad death. The museum spokesman added that Jennifer Jones had spend the last 40 years of her life in social work, as she supported the causes of mental health research, hereditary disease, cancer research and the arts.

She was born on March 2, 1919 in Oklahoma and she was then named as Phylis Lee Isley. She already had an inclination towards the arts and she studied drama at Monte Cassino Junior College in Tulsa and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She then moved to New York to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

She married actor Robert Hudson Walker in New York in the year 1939, and then she started her acting career, and during the course of her 35-year-old career, she managed to star and give great performances in over 2 dozen films.
