geoLos Angeles, Mar 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) This year, the distribution of the Academy Awards were more or less expected, despite some of the films giving each other tough competition in some of the categories. All in all, though, it seemed as though the Oscars were actually a repeat telecast of the other award ceremonies that had taken place earlier this year. However, as every rule has an exception, some of the categories saw some major upsets, and really unexpected results. One such huge upset was in the category of the Best Adapted Screenplay, which was taken away bu Geoffrey Fletcher, the screenplay writer for “Precious.’

It was being expected by most of the observers that Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner were the ones most likely to win in this category for the brilliant work that they had done for “Up In The Air.” It was being speculated- in fact, many were pretty certain about it- that “Up In The Air” would be taking away the Oscars, just as they did the Golden Globe, in the same category.

No doubt the Oscar has proved to be the biggest feather in the cap of the screenplay writer, who had earlier won the NAACP Image Award in the same category for the same film. Winning the Oscar surely means all the more for Geoffrey Fletcher as this is his very first full length feature film, a breakthrough after a very long struggle. As he came up to receive the award, his acceptance speech was emotional, and his voice palpably choked. He dedicate the award to all those people who work on their dreams, referring to them as “Precious boys and girls.”
