Dec 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) No one is unaware of the charitable disposition of talk show queen Oprah Winfrey. After distributing her favorite things to the numerous audiences on her show, she has now bagged the number one rank as the most charitable celebrity. Recently, an organization called Giving Back Fund, compiled the philanthropic information about a few charitable celebrities and ranked Oprah Winfrey on the top.

The host did not donate any ordinary amount, but a whopping $40 million dollars, to the Oprah Winfrey Foundation, that aims to educate poor women and children. Now, that is a huge amount indeed! Now one only has to wonder, if she can afford to donate that lumpsome amount just for donation, how much bucks she must be bagging every year. To add another shock, she donated $40 million dollars in just one year, thereby making her way right to the top of the list by a huge margin. Oprah Winfrey is followed by Nora Roberts, who donated $4.45 million for charity to the Nora Roberts Foundation. Although this is also a huge amount for the sake of donation, it seems rather negligible if compared to Oprah Winfrey’s $40 million. The third rank went to Meryl Streep, who donated $4 million to the Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts.

The 2010 Giving Back list is based on the donations made in 2009 by 30 most charitable celebrities. Marc Pollick, the group’s president, said that there are many celebrities who love making donations, but if a celebrity can make it through the list three out of four times, then she must be a truly charitable one. Other celebrities who have made it into the list are Jamie Gertz who donated $2.9 million, Lance Berkman with $2.1 million and Madieu Williams with $2 million.
