oprah Chicago, Nov 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) After reigning as the Talk Show Queen for 25 years Oprah Winfrey is all set to end the legendary show in 2011, after 25 seasons on air.

Winfrey planned to announce the date for the final episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” during a live broadcast, according to her production company, Harpo Productions Inc.

This amazing show started as a Chicago morning program, but soon the production evolved into television’s top-rated talk show for more than two decades, and it aired in 145 countries worldwide and is watched by an estimated 42 million viewers a week in the U.S. alone.

“Oprah Winfrey is in a category of her own,” said Robert Thompson, professor of television and popular culture at Syracuse University. “This is a great American story and like any great American story it’s supersized.”

“The sun will set on the Oprah show as its 25th season draws to a close on 9 September 2011,” Tim Bennett, president of Winfrey’s Harpo production company, wrote in a letter to affiliates.

The 55-year old billionaire Oprah Winfrey is now expected to focus on her channel: The Oprah Winfrey Network. The Oprah Winfrey Network is a joint venture between Winfrey and Discovery Communications and is all set to replace the Discovery Health Channel in more than 70 million US homes.
