The autopsy investigation in the death of Michael Jackson has began in Los Angeles, with the autopsy being performed by Dr. Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran, a star witness in the O.J. Simpson murder trial.

Sathyavagiswaran was elected chief medical examiner-coroner in 1992 after fourteen years as a deputy medical examiner. He was the medical examiner during the O. J. Simpson murder case and testified in the criminal and civil trials.

Sathyavagiswaran also testified in the trials of Dean Carter and Phil Spector, as well as in the wrongful death suit brought against the Los Angeles Police Department by the family of Emil Matasareanu.

As the post-mortem examination was being performed, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) homicide team investigating the death of 50-year-old Jackson are reportedly seeking the doctor who lived at the singers home.

Jackson family members have said the dead entertainer received a daily injection of a synthetic narcotic similar to morphine – Demerol –and yesterday he received a shot at 11:30am.

An emergency a 911 call was made at 12.21pm and reports so far indicate the paramedics arrived about eight minutes later.

English newspaper The Sun, is claiming Jackson’s aides told medics in the emergency room the he had collapsed after an injection of

“Shortly after taking the Demerol he started to experience slow shallow breathing. His breathing gradually got slower and slower until it stopped.

“His staff started mouth-to-mouth and an ambulance was called which got there in eight minutes, but found he was in full respiratory arrest, no breathing and no pulse. They started full CPR and rushed him to hospital.

“When he arrived [at the hospital] they started resuscitation, giving him heart shocks and inserted a breathing tube and other supportive measures to try and save his life. He never regained consciousness.”

Family members are claiming the dosage was “too much” and that’s what caused his death.

Police sources are reported to have said the doctor gave Jackson an injection before he died and that a BMW belonging to the doctor was towed from Jackson’s home last night.

It’s also being claimed that Jackson’s father, Joe, recently wanted to put Michael in a rehab facility in Palmdale, California for what he considered an “addiction” to morphine and prescription drugs.

Family members say they felt he was unable to perform for his upcoming concerts because of his drug use.

Members of the upcoming tour are reported to have said Jackson was generally lethargic and very late for rehearsals.

After Jackson was badly burned during the filming of a Pepsi commercial, he became addicted to painkillers – reportedly Demerol –and ended up at the Betty Ford Clinic.

During Jackson’s child molestation trial in 2005, police said they found syringes and drugs, including Demerol, while searching the singers’ premises.

Demerol is a narcotic painkiller similar to Morphine that is used to treat moderate to severe pain. Though successful as a pain reliever, Demerol’s side effects include thought impairment, slowed reactions, and death if taken in excess. It is also known to be addictive.
