New York, July 18 (ANI): For the first time in history US President Barack Obama flew in a chopper manned by an all-female Marine Corps crew.
Maj. Jennifer L. Grieves, who is the first female pilot of Marine One, flew the chopper carrying Obama to Andrews Air Force Base.
It was in honour of her achievement that three-person crew of all women was formed for the flight.
Grieves greeted the President, as he walked across the White House’s South Lawn and climbed aboard, before she lifted off the chopper, the New York Daily News reports.
The pilot, who comes from Glendale, Ariz was designated a “Marine One” pilot in May 2008.
She has flown President George W. Bush and Obama numerous times in her career, according to information provided by the White House.
However, according to the Marine Corps, she does not want to stop as she prepares to become lieutenant colonel by heading to Command and Staff College at Quantico, Va., to fulfill the necessary requirements.
Her co-pilot in the flight was Maj. Jennifer Marino, who is from Palisade, Colo.
Also present was the crew chief Sgt. Rachael Sherman from Traverse City, Mich. (ANI)
