If this isn’t the ever-lovin’ proof of just how alarmingly celebrity-obsessed our culture has become, then I don’t know what is.

It’s an insult to anyone even marginally intelligent that a man with absolutely zero qualifications to run for public office is now being considered solely on his fictional persona having been exploited by a shameless presidential nominee who saw fit to reference it twenty-one times in the third presidential debate.

There are many reasons that I can’t wait for November 4th to get here. Sending “Joe the Plumber” back to his well-deserved obscurity is one of them.

Truly this is a sick joke.

Note: I encourage anyone unfamiliar with the 1957 film, A Face In The Crowd (dir: Elia Kazan) to check it out, as it is extremely relevant to the JTP phenomenon. Much more so than this year’s Swing Vote.

When I think of small business I think of someone with 10 or less employees. McCain shows me how out of touch he is with so many of us with his Joe the Plumber banter. I work for a non-profit, as far as I know I will receive 1 more small paycheck and then we will be working for free because we are out of funds. I’ll try to get a job at a local gas station to make ends meet. My husband just lost 25% of his retirement in his 401k. The neighbors down the street lost their home and are living in the storage shed where they used to keep their lawnmower. This is the reality of my world. Can rich McCain ever relate to what so many hard working people are losing in our economic times? To me, the Joe the Plumbers of this world can’t even relate. Posted by Dawn the Non-Profit Employee

If he actually DID report on all income he might actually have to pay taxes.
