Lindsay Lohan New York, March 24 (ANI): Sick of Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen? Thanks to a new app, you don’t have to hear about them ever again.

‘Silence of the Celebs,’ a program created by Manhattan web design studio Gesture Theory, lets you filter out all mentions of a celebrity from online news sources just by entering their names.

“We were on news sites and one of us said, ‘Why are we still seeing all this stuff about Charlie Sheen? Who cares? This has got to stop,” the New York Daily News quoted company’s creative director Michael Surtees as saying.

He and lead developer Roy Yang quickly created the program, which makes headlines that contain user-selected keywords (like “Lohan”) disappear.

So far, the program only works to filter content on a handful of websites: The New York Times, CNN, The Huffington Post,, Google News, and Gawker, as well as on Twitter and

The developers are working on a beta version that will work on all outlets.

Lohan and Sheen are among the top celebrities people are most sick of, Yang said, with Mel Gibson and Justin Bieber hot on their heels.

The program was built as an “extension” in Google Chrome, the only browser it functions in so far, and is free and easy to use - just install it on your computer and type in which celebrities you’d like to pretend never existed.

But you have to be specific - if you just choose to remove “Lindsay Lohan” you’ll still see stories about her fame-hungry father, Michael, for example.

Whatever you choose to filter out disappears completely, and the site shrinks as if the stories never existed.

“Each site is pretty flexible. Everything contracts,” Yang said.

And the web app has no impact on other users, since it’s purely local to your computer.

In addition to celeb content, the technology can be applied to filter any topics you choose. Some users, for example, have opted to eliminate all mentions of Apple, the iPhone, and iPad. (ANI)
