Parminder Nagra became a house hold name in England after starring in “Bend It like Beckham“. She is a British actress of Indian decent born October 5, 1975 in Leicester.
This small budget film received both critical and financial success world over grossing nearly $ 30 million. Currently she stars in the hit Emmy award winning American medical series ER.
Parminder Nagra was interested in becoming an actress right from her childhood days. This passion led her to forgo university and by the time she hit twenty she was on her way to pursue theatrical career in London. Nagra had early success in theater and was cast in varied roles even without having any formal training in this field of art. Her roles ranged from being the princess in “Sleeping beauty” to playing a small part in “Fair ladies at a Game of Poem Cards” at Cottesloe, Royal National Theater.
Parminder Nagra slowly established her self and gained reputation of being a strong performer. What followed were crucial breakthroughs in her career by starring in very successful television movie series Casualty and Turning world. She has also appeared in the hit British television series “Goodness Gracious Me” and “The Kumar’s at No. 42.”
Although she was climbing up the ladder of success on television and theater in London, “Bend It like Beckham” was the launching vehicle to put her on a global pedestal. Nagra had to put in 9 hrs a day rigorous workout for this movie as she had never played football earlier and had to look ten years younger than her age. The final scenes for the movie were shot in Calcutta and this gave her the chance of visiting India, her ancestral home.
