No more ‘weighty roles’ for Russell CroweOctober 5th, 2008 - 12:53 pm ICT by IANS
New York, Oct 5 (IANS) After putting on extra pounds for upcoming movie “Body Of Lies”, Russell Crowe says he won’t accept roles that will require him to to put on weight because he didn’t like his large frame. The star plays a CIA boss in the thriller and director Ridley Scott told him to put on weight for the role. So the “Gladiator” actor gained more than 50 pounds (22.7 kilograms) preparing for the part.
But Crowe was so disgusted with his appearance, he will now think twice about accepting a similar role again.
Imdb.com reports him saying: “Ridley called up and said. Now, mate, would you mind putting on a significant amount of weight? I see him (the character) as an ex-athlete who has let himself go’. And I trust him so much, I say yes first and rationalise pretentious artistic reason later.
“When I see my gut hanging between my legs, I don’t know what I was thinking. I’m not sure I’d do that again.”
Leonardo DiCaprio, Crowe’s co-star in “Body of Lies”, was also shocked by the actor’s bulky new physique.
“I busted out laughing, I couldn’t stop,” said DiCaprio.
