No Funeral For Gary Coleman: Estate Battle Could Last Months

Gary Coleman Estate June 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to the independent attorney who was assigned to oversee the estate and cremation of Gary Coleman, there will be no funeral services held for the former child actor, who has been dead for three weeks and counting.

Robert Jeffs was named the special administrator of Coleman’s estate by a Utah judge after the “Diff’rent Strokes” star’s ex wife, Shannon Price and ex girlfriend, Anna Gray began a bitter dispute over who is the legal administrator of Coleman’s estate. A will which Coleman had written in 2005 names Anna as Coleman’s administrator, however a handwritten note by Coleman in 2007 names Shannon as the sole heir.

Also in a will written in 1999, Coleman stated, “I direct my personal representative to permit no members of the press to be present at my wake or funeral.” He added that he did not want anyone who had any financial ties to him to attend, and only wanted people who “can look each other in the eyes and say they really cared personally for Gary Coleman.”

But the 2005 will states that Coleman does not want any type of funeral at all. Since this is the will that is being followed for his funeral wishes, it leads some to speculate that Anna will eventually be named as heir, since that is in the same will.

Anna and Gary were said to have broken up as a direct result of Gary meeting Shannon. According to Utah law, however, once Gary and Shannon divorced, her codicil to the will became null and void, leaving Anna as the rightful air to the estate which includes a $315,000 home in Santaquin, Utah. According to Jeffs, this battle could go on for months.

The cremation is expected to occur today or tomorrow, since Jeffs is waiting for an order from the judge. “The judge hasn’t entered the order granting me authority as special administrator,” Jeffs said. “That’s just a technicality; (I) need a formalized order.”

Coleman’s ashes will be kept in a locked place, and his property securely kept until the battle of the heirs is over. Maybe then, little ‘Arnold Jackson’, the character played by Coleman, can finally rest in peace. It has taken over three weeks to bury the young actor, and could take months for him to land in his final resting place, which has led many of his fans to ask, “Whachu talkin’ bout, WIllis?”
