nicole1 Port-au-Prince, Aug 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Nicole Kidman who is a goodwill ambassador made news when she went to Haiti last weekend. The Caribbean island is still trying to get back on its feet after the devastating earthquake that rocked it in the early part of the year. The Hollywood actress went on a visit to the debris-laden suburbs that got razed down as a result of the earthquake.

She also wanted to bring the world’s attention to places that have been beaming with criminal activities, as a result of the inhuman living conditions.

The actress was horrified to find that many women and girls were exposed to sexual violence as a result of inadequate shelter. She was also pleased that some determined men and women were working hard to bring the impoverished nation back to its former glory. She said medical and legal services being provided as well as counseling should be scaled up. “During this trip I saw first-hand how this humanitarian disaster is impacting women and girls. The lack of shelter and security makes them more vulnerable to violence, in particular sexual violence,” Nicole said.

Kidman is committed to help Haitians lead a better life after the earthquake. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world and citizens were already living deeply in poverty before the natural disaster.
