Nicole Kidman Visits Haiti As A Goodwill Ambassador Of UNIFEM

Nicole Kidman August 3, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Nicole Kidman opened up to the media today when she got speaking with USA Today. She had to leave her youngest child, the two year old Sunday Rose, home as she took a trip to the troubled island of Haiti. The trip was undertaken with the specific objective of promoting the rights of women.

It had been tough to be away from her daughter said the star of ‘Hours’ from Port- Au-Prince. She admitted that she missed her little child and had never before been away from her in the two years except for a couple of nights. She usually goes everywhere with Kidman but the star said that it would have been unsafe for Sunday Rose if she tagged along this time. The entire place has been converted into a tent city with rubble lying everywhere. Haiti had suffered the worst earthquake of the decade just a few months ago on 12th January 2010.

Nicole Kidman is a part of the UNIFEM or the United Nations Development Fund for Women working in the capital city of Haiti at present. She elaborated that both she as well as her husband Keith Urban are keen to ingrain a social consciousness in their kid. The Goodwill Ambassador has also expressed an urgent need to address the gender based violence directed at women in the island nation of Haiti. She is also a part of the team which hopes to take an initiative in providing the affected women with livelihoods.

Nicole will also star as a mother concerned about protecting her child in her upcoming project titled, ‘Trespass’. She gets to star with Nicolas Cage in the movie and admits that the subject is very close to her heart.
