elvisWashington, Mar 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The new museum that is going to house the artifacts used once by the king of rock and roll is being called the Newseum. An appropriate nomenclature, considering that it explores the rise of the singer to kingship, and the role the media played in it. Strangely enough, if the history is followed carefully, it will be well seen that it was the very hatred of the press toward Elvis Presley that drove him further toward the status he attained. Although, it must be admitted, the media did not do it intentionally. The Newseum is actually a history museum focusing on the First Amendment of the American Constitution.

The Newseum is going to house some of the artifacts used by Elvis Presley in his lifetime, and also some never-seen-before documents. For example, there is the trademark golden belt and the glittery overcoat that the pop star wore to the White House, where he had gone to see the extant President Richard Nixon, and also the Harley Davidson motorbike that was an instrumental part of the image that turned an entire generation into rebels. It would also have the first Grammy award that Elvis Presley won.

All in all, everything that is housed in the Newseum is a living sign of the clash that took place between the media and the legend. While the media hated his rebel ways and the challenges he posed to the so called morale of the American society, the younger generation doted upon him, and soon after, there was no other way for the conservative, moral policing press to accede to his supremacy.
