Newcomer Kenny Wormald In Remake Of ‘Footloose’

kenny June 23, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Paramount Pictures is going to revive the charm of the 1984 Hollywood hit Footloose. The new movie will also have a fresh face Kenny Wormald playing the lead role of Ren.

This announcement by the Paramount has stopped all the speculations that had been buzzing around the casting. Kerry has earlier appeared in the MTV network show Dancelife.

Apart from a new lead actor, the new Footloose will also have a new director Craig Brewer of Hustle & Flow fame.

Producer Craig Zadan of the original film will be there with the new film. In a press release, Craig said, “In 1984, when we discovered Kevin Bacon, we were very excited as well as thankful. We knew that it would be one in a million if we want to duplicate the effort. After more than two decades, the discovery of Kenny Wormald proved that history could repeat itself.”

The producer added, “We wished to work with the director Craig Brewer since we watched his Hustle & Flow. The movie will open in 2011 with fresh and contemporary vision of Brewer. It will surely appeal to the new generation of moviegoers.”

Kenny will be acting opposite Dennis Quaid, who will essay the role of Reverend Moore. Miles Teller will be playing Willard and the previously announced Julianne Hough will also be seen.

Craig’s partner Neil Meron will be producing as well. Choreographer Jamal Sims will choreograph will be handling the dance moves.

In a press release, Craig Brewer said, “When I was 13 year old, I watched Footloose in my hometown theater. The movie rocked my world, which showed teenage rebellion. I promise the fans of the movie that I will try to keep the spirit of the original film. It’s going to rock again.”
