New York City, Dec 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) On 6th December, the SyFy network began a surreal adventure called ‘Alice’ which is a modern day twist in the tale of Lewis Carroll classic ‘Alice in Wonderland.’
The talented cast includes Kathy Bates, Tim Curry and a debutant Caterina Scorsone who plays Alice. “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” executive producer Robert Halmi Sr. said that he wanted to “de-Disneyfy the story” and adapt the classic tale for modern audiences.
To give shape to his dream, Robert Halmi Sr. asked Nick Willing to write and direct the two-part miniseries ‘Alice’.
“For me, it was a fabulous coincidence, learning I wouldn’t have to spend five hours a day in hair and make-up, or bleaching my hair into oblivion,” said the lead actress Caterina Scorsone. “But it goes to show that from the very first frame, the audience knows this is going to be completely different kind of ‘Alice’ story.”
The first part was aired yesterday and it created quiet a sensation. In the modern adaptation, it is shown that ten years after she tumbled through the looking glass and into Wonderland, Alice now surprisingly is a mental asylum inmate. As her parents are killed so due to the trauma, she grows up into a disturbed young woman. And the journey follows from there.

Did they watch the same show I watched? None of that is true- her mother is alive, and she’s never been through the looking glass before, nor is she an inmate in a mental asylum. And she didn’t seem particularly disturbed to me. Sounds like someone wasn’t paying attention.
