New mini paper hits town
January 18th, 2012 - 7:10 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Jan 18 (IANS) A new mini-edition of leading English daily Hindustan Times has given the capital its first easy-read paper that is half the size of a tabloid.
Targeted at people on the move, the thin text-book paper with light content is looking at readers — mostly youth and working professionals between 18 and 34 years — across Delhi and the Gurgaon and Noida suburbs.
The paper covers a wide range of topics including crime, social issues, entertinment, liefstyle and the world.
The capital currently has one tabloid, Mail Today, published by the India Today Group. Two tabloids, Times Now and Midday, which were published from the capital have ceased to publish. Midday, published by Jagran Prakashan closed down its Delhi and Bangalore editions last December.
Shantanu Bhanja, vice president of marketing for HT Media Ltd. said: “The needs of people on the move are quite different from those reading the newspaper at home. They want something primarily to pass their time while they are traveling, and need something portable, conveniently-sized, with light, entertaining content.”
He said with the introduction of the Delhi Metro in the last decade, “the number of such travelers have grown exponentially”.
HT Media Limited publishes Hindustan Times, Hindustan (Hindi) and
Mint (business daily).
Hindustan Times was first published in 1924.
