Netflix beats networks to acquire ‘House of Cards’

New York City, Mar 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Netflix has beaten cable networks such as HBO to get its hands on ‘House of Cards’.

The show ‘House of Cards’ is Kevin Spacey’s new drama and it is inspired by a British book. The actual storyline of the book is centered around a British politican who aspires to become the Prime Minster of the country when the current reign of Margaret Thatcher comes to an end.

Kevin Spacey is not only going to act in the drama but he is also going to produce the show. And the director of the $100 million show is going to be David Fincher who made a name for himself with ‘The Social Network’. Even though the exact financial aspects of the deal haven’t been disclosed as yet, but there is a buzz in the market that it is worth in the vicinity of $100 million. And Netflix has committed to at least 26 episodes of the show at the moment.

The show would start production soon and the viewers can watch it in late 2012, according to NetFlix officials.

“The gripping, serialized one hour drama has become a very important part of the Netflix experience. David Fincher’s unique vision, the indelible performances of Kevin Spacey and the original version of ‘House of Cards,’ all have a big following among our members, giving the series a very good chance of becoming a fan favorite. We are thrilled to be working with this amazing team,” according to Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos.
