Mumbai, March 30th, 2009: This week, NDTV Lumière brings a delicate drama of pain and grief in the wake of family tragedy, “The Son’s Room’. Directed by one of Europe’s most acclaimed filmmakers Nanni Moretti, “The Son’s Room’ was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the 2002 César Awards, France. Seating and entry is free at “Zenzi Lumière’.
“The Son’s Room’ depicts the psychological effects on a family and their life after the death of a loved. Giovanni (Nanni Moretti) has a perfect family life, with his wife, Paula (Laura Morante) and two smart, spirited teenagers, Irene (Jasmine Trinca) and Andrea (Giuseppe Sanfelice). However with Andrea’s sudden death in a scuba diving accident, tragedy threatens to tear them apart. Paula, Irene and Giovanni retreat into their own private grief, as they each struggle with the shock of Andrea’s death.
Things change when an unknown girlfriend from Andrea’s past visits the family, and provides an unexpected opportunity for the three to finally unite in their grief, and move toward the future .The moving drama also appears in Empire magazine’s 2008 list of the 500 greatest movies of all time at number 480.
