Mumbai, March 19th, 2009: This week, NDTV Lumière explores the cyclical existence of young adolescents as they fall in love, discover sexual intimacy and understand the true meaning of friendship in “Bitter Sweetheart’. Directed by Hella Joof, this sweet coming of age tale was screened at the 2008 Maverick Narrative Competition – Cinequest Film Festival. Seating and entry is free at “Zenzi Lumière’.
Adapted from a novel by Emma Hamberg “Bitter Sweetheart’, revolves around a 15-year-old girl, Lina Berglund, who desires to be like her carefree and popular friends. With self esteem issues, Lina believes she isn’t as pretty or popular as her friends and fears that she may never be kissed. Lina experiments with alcohol and even her sexuality to help boost her esteem but little does she know that ultimately she needs to make her own choices irrespective of what her peers think.
