HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) — NBC Universal has officially renewed the spy action-comedy Chuck for a fourth season. Television insiders had put the series’ renewel in doubt after lack-luster spring ratings, but Executive Producer Josh Schwartz made the official announcement via social networking site Twitter.

“Just got the official call,” Schwartz wrote. “Thank you Chuck fans for getting us a 4th season! Thrilled to keep working with amazing cast & crew.”

Chuck is an action-comedy spy series that has been on the air since 2007. The show follows the title character of Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi) who finds himself in the unlikely role as an international spy.

Chuck also faced certain demise last year. A fan-generated campaign helped secure restaurant chain Subway as an official sponsor to keep the show on the air.

The two-part Chuck season three finale titled Chuck Versus the Subway is set to air May 24th, 2010.
