Natalie Merchant’s New Album ‘Leave Your Sleep’ Hits The Shelves

natalieApr 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Noted folk and pop singer Natalie Merchant released her album after a gap of seven years with the name ‘Leave Your Sleep’ on Tuesday. The album comprises two CDs and 25 tracks. The songs of the new album touches on the topics like joy of childhood, grief and demise etc. After her daughter’s birth 7 years back the singer put an abrupt end to recording albums and touring but she did not cease composing as such. The singer said that after becoming a mother she found herself attracted to nursery rhymes which paved the way for her latest album.

The album presents the singer’s interpretation of the poetry of 20th and 19th century. Some songs in the album sound pleasant while some of them have a reflective overtone. Its theme is childhood though a wider range of human emotion is covered in the tracks. She chose poets like Robert Louis Stevenson, Charles Manley Hopkins, Robert Graves and Ogden Nash for composing the 26 songs of her new album. Her last album was “The House Carpenter’s Daughter” which was released in 2003. The new album of the singer has been released by Nonesuch Records.

The release of the new album of Natalie Merchant will be followed by some TV appearances and CD release parties. The singer put her thoughts in her site. The album was in the making for 5 years, as she has said. On April 21 she will be seen in ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno’. The track titled ‘If No One Ever Marries Me’ is meant for the hardcore fans of the singer and it has bass and guitars in it.
