New York, Apr 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Singer Natalie Merchant released her new album ‘Leave Your Sleep.’ This is her first album after almost 7 years. Her latest album is on 2 discs, and it features her musical interpretation of some of the 19th and 20th century poets, such as Robert Graves, Charles Manley Hopkins, Edward Lear, Ogden Nash and Robert Louis Stevenson.
Natalie’s last album was ‘The House Carpenter’s Daughter’, which was released in 2003. She said that she took a break from recording in 2003, due to her motherhood. About her latest release she says that this is “the most elaborate project I have ever completed or even imagined.”
When she was asked if her poetry and music album might offend some people, then Natalie said that, “That people might think I’d taken license? I’m not worried about that. People in the poetry world are all delighted with what I’ve done; the response has been really great so far.” She also said that she gets surprised all the time when young musicians tell her that they get inspired by her music. She said that, “I never really thought I did, but I have met musicians who tell me they grew up with my music. It shocks the part of my brain that wants to think time has stood still since I was 25!”
