May 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The floods in Nashville Tennessee have caused extensive devastation, and heartbreak by covering homes and businesses, such as the world famous “Opryland” with muddy water and killing at least 30 people. Although the attempted bombing in Times Square, the tragic oil spill in the gulf, and many other issues have taken up extreme amounts of media coverage, Kenny Chesney’s call to Anderson Cooper began a change in that.
Of course country music stars all over the country have kept a close eye on the city of Nashville, known as the heart of country music. Many of these singers got their start on the Nashville Stage, and Nashville’s “Grand Ole Opry” is rich in country music history. The storms of last week left all that history underneath a pile of muddy water.
So country stars from everywhere have came to give back to their mother city. Taylor Swift just donated $500,000 to the flood relief in Nashville, and now she will be performing along with many others in the upcoming disaster relief effort for Nashville which will be hosted by country music sweethearts Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Miley Cyrus will also be performing, along with Carrie Underwood-American Idol favorite, Miranda Lambert, the legendary Martina McBride, Brooks & Dunn, LeAnn Rimes, and many many more. The benefit concert will be held at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, and will hopefully draw tourists back to the city as well as raise money for the flood victims.
In a statement released by Tim McGraw and his wife, Faith Hill, they said, “The damage that we’ve seen to people’s homes and the effect that the flooding has had on their lives is unimaginable. But we’ve seen the spirit of our community first hand, as volunteers, church groups and our local business leaders rally to help.”
