Actress Naomi Watts was sent to boot camps to prepare for her role in upcoming spy movie Fair Game. Watts was on the sets of the film shortly after giving birth to her second son in December 2008. Director Doug Liman made her undergo rigorous physical training for the role. He told her to go to CIA boot camp for a couple of days, including interrogation sessions in which she was hooded, hand-cuffed and even kicked.

In a statement Watts said that she may have been the only person who was simultaneously breast-feeding and learning how to pack weapons. She said that in the camp they kicked her shins and knocked her down. Watts added that when she said, “Ow!’ they told her that she cannot say it until she actually has to go to the hospital.

Fair Game has been written by the team of Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. It is a political drama about the Bush administration’s betrayal of CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson and is the only American film in this year’s Cannes competition.

Watts plays the lead role of Valerie Plame and Sean Penn plays her husband, Joe Wilson. Wilson, a former ambassador apparently was the real target of the leak after he disputed Bush administration assertions over Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction in The New York Times.

The title of the film has been taken from a quote from senior Bush adviser Karl Rove, that Wilson’s wife was “fair game.”
