May 4th, 2009 - 10:05 am ICT by Sampurn WireMusician-actor Ben Lee reportedly washed the feet of his mother and his bride actress Ione Skye’s mother during his recent traditional Hindu wedding ceremony in Malaikodi village near Chennai in south India.
Among those who attended ARIA award winner 30 years old Lee and YAA nominated 38 years old Skye (My Father’s Will) wedding reportedly included Missy Higgins (Australian singer-songwriter), actor brothers Nash and Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chapnik (musician-actress), Josh Radnor (actor), Donovan Leitch, Jr (actor); while Lee’s guru (spiritual guide) Narayani Amma presided. Kahn Brothers performed as wedding band. Locals were invited to watch the ceremony.
Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed has applauded Lee-Skye for going through traditional Hindu ceremony with due respect to rich traditions of about 5,000 years old Hindu religion.
Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, in a statement in Nevada (USA), said that vivah (marriage) was one of the major sanskar (sacrament) of Hindus. In Hindu wedding ceremony, which involves rich and ancient rituals, bride and groom together take seven steps before the fire, each step representing a particular blessing. The marriage is said to be complete and irrevocable with taking of the seventh step.
Hinduism is oldest and third largest religion of the world with about one billion adherents and moksha (liberation) is its ultimate goal. -Sampurn Media
