London, Sept 3 (ANI): Music lovers all over Britain have a reason to celebrate, as premium videos of the world’s most famous artists are all set to return to YouTube.
Fans around the UK could not access several videos for almost half-a-year following a royalty dispute with PRS for Music, a society collecting royalties for British lyricists, composers and music publishers.
Now, YouTube’s owner Google has come to an agreement with PRS for Music, in a deal which is believed to run into millions of pounds.
Google’s previous license had expired in November last year after which the company tried pressurising PRS by scraping music videos from the site.
The new agreement is backdated to have started from January and will end in June 2012. This time it includes not just music videos but also content generated by users and theme music of television shows uploaded to the site.
Timesonline quoted the managing director of broadcast and online at PRS for Music, Andrew Shaw, as saying: “It is important that those who are creating music - the writers and composers we represent - be rewarded when their works are used.”
“We are extremely pleased to have reached an agreement with PRS for Music and look forward to the return of premium music videos to YouTube in the UK,” said YouTube’s director of video partnerships, Patrick Walker.
However, YouTube’s dispute with Warner Music is still in a dealock, due to which video of artists like Madonna and Kid Rock have been removed from the site. (ANI)
