London, March 27 (IANS) Popular record labels Sony and Universal are in talks with concert promoters Live Nation to stage a star-studded music concert in London next month to raise money for victims of Japan’s devastating earthquake and tsunami.
Wembley Arena is the likely venue and the entire concert will be screened live on BBC in Britain and on NBC in the US, thesun.co.uk reports.
“The supergig will be the biggest concert in years and a huge global spectacle. No names have been confirmed yet. But the organisers are expecting a massive response from acts of all eras. They’re hoping the TV audience numbers will break records,” said a source.
Record labels have also teamed up to release an album called “Songs For Japan”, featuring tracks from major acts. Singers like Eminem, Beyonce Knowles, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga and John Lennon are few of the stars who appear on the CD.
The proceeds from the CD’s sale will be used to the relief efforts of the Japanese Red Cross Society.
