Mumbai to host third edition of French film festival
November 18th, 2010 - 7:43 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Nov 18 (IANS) The third edition Of Rendez-Vous With French Cinema In India is set to begin here Dec 4 and it will also pay tribute to late director-writer Alain Corneau.
As many as seven French movies will be screened with English subtitles at the Metro BIG Cinemas (Dhobi Talao) and Fun Cinemas (Andheri West). “Heartbreaker” - a romantic comedy starring Romain Duris, Vanessa Paradis and Julie Ferrier will kickstart the four-day fest.
Corneau was in love with India. He was a jury member at many Indian film festivals and shot “Nocturne Indien” in different locations in the country in 1988 and was a regular visitor. He passed away Aug 30 this year, just about a fortnight after his new film “Crime d’Amour” (Love Crime) was released.
The fest is organised by the French embassy in India along with Unifrance, an official organisation dedicated to promote French cinema worldwide. It aims to establish a platform to showcase various facets of contemporary French movies in India. Also, to help Indian distributors to promote French films and celebrate Indo-French ties.
“The eclectic mix of films lined up for the third Rendez-vous with French Cinema in India is set to mesmerise the Indian audience…” Regine Hatchondo, general manager of Unifrance, said in a statement.
All passes for the festival are free but strictly on first come first served basis. Passes can collected at the entrance of the Cinemas, one hour prior to the screening time of each film.
