Oct 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The documentary on Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes will be aired on ESPN on Tuesday. The film will be aired from eight in the evening. It is going to be a part of the channel’s celebration of it’s 30th anniversary. It’s going to be one of the many documentaries that will be broadcast as part of the program. The program is titled “30 for 30″, and is part of the “The Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival.”
The film, entitled “Muhammad and Larry” was directed by celebrated documentary filmmakers Albert and David Maysles. The documentary catches up with Larry Holmes, who now stays in Easton. The documentary films rare footage of the practice sessions of Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes. The director duo was commissioned to film the legendary fight between Ali and Holmes, in which Holmes beat Ali’s chances of returning as the heavyweight champion to a pulp. At the time of the fight, Ali was thirty eight years old and totally out of shape. On the other hand, Holmes career was on an all time high. Ali was already in retirement at that time and the attempt to win the heavyweight championship title for the fourth time was obviously a mistake. His defeat at the hands of Larry dashed all his hopes of ever returning to the ring as a champion.
The documentary features Larry at his Easton home remembering trivia about the fight. He remembers that his win over Ali won him the hate of the audience. A woman walked over to him and said that she hated him for beating up Ali. To this, Larry said it was not possible for him to beat or win over the legend that is Muhammad Ali.
