January 11, 2011 (Pen Men at Work): MTV Networks (MTVN), in tandem with Comedy Central (CC), has proclaimed The Comedy Awards (TCA), which would be an affair that would pay tribute to the industry’s successful writers, directors and actors as well as stand-up comedians.

TCA’s official website has asserted that the TCA would be a momentous commemoration of one night only and would award those folks, who have managed to supply the laugh track to the ordinary Americans’ lives in the preceding year. The TCA would also honor those persons, who have broken new ground and have pushed boundaries. The TCA would pay homage to those hilarious TV programs, which magnetized the folks to their TV sets. The event would also appreciate the films that were entrenched in the combined popular cultural memory. The happening would also award the stand-up comedians and the viral videos that engender laughter in Americans daily without fail.

The contenders for the awards will be selected by a panel of directors that consists of eminent personalities such as Whoopi Goldberg, Seth MacFarlane, Will Ferrell, Billy Crystal, etc. The victors will be chosen by a nominated cluster of experts from the comedic community. The ordinary aficionados can also nominate and place their votes for specific ‘online only’ categories.

It has not yet been resolved whether the TCA will have a host. TCA will occur in New York on March 26 at the Hammerstein Ballroom and be simultaneously telecast on Comedy Central, TV Land, VH1, Nick at Nite, etc. on April 10.

TCAs represent the initial significant comedic honors program to come into sight since the American Comedy Awards collapsed in 2001.

Also, the MTVN Entertainment Group has pooled resources with the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) to initiate The American Comedy Fund (TACF), which would be designed to supply monetary assistance, health remunerations and other assets for the comedians in destitution. TACF is, probably, the primary non-profit charitable trust catering completely to the requirements of the comedic community.
