Motown 50th Anniversary Gala was a lavish affair
November 23rd, 2009 - 2:39 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattDetroit, Nov 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The very lavish and grand Motown 50th Anniversary Golden Gala was held in downtown Detroit on Saturday.
The lavish event featured Berry Gordy and performances by Aretha Franklin, The Temptations and duet partners Stevie Wonder and Kid Rock. Gordy was so vocal when he said that, “it means everything” to be at the gala, a fundraiser for the Motown Historical Museum. The museum had been the original home of Motown Records Corp.
Kid Rock said that he is, “excited,” ”happy” and “blessed” that he will perform later with Wonder on the Motown greats song “Living For The City.”
The tickets for the show were at $350 apiece for the gala, and entrance to the pre-gala VIP reception and “Afterglow” party costed a whooping $1,000.
The high profile event was a fundraiser for the Motown Historical Museum, which was the original site of Motown Records Corp.
Detroit was the Motown’s base of operations from the period 1959 to 1972.
