June 7, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): This would be the second time when Aparna Sen and Konkona Sen Sharma, would be sharing the screen. They were seen playing mother and daughter, in the film Titli for the first time. But this time they will play the same character, at different ages, in Aparna Sen’s next venture Iti Mrinalini. Konkona will be playing the younger Mrinalini and Aparna the older one. Aparna said that she wanted a different actor to do the older version of but as Konkona and herself share the same type of body language she decided to play the character herself. Shrikant Mohta of Shree Venkatesh Films would be producing the movie. Others in the cast are Shaheb Bhattacharya, Locket Chatterjee, Rajat Kapoor, Priyangshu Chatterjee,Koushik Sen and Suzane Bernert. All the actors have been given the look of the 1970’s and 1980’s, as the major part of the story belongs to that era. Most of the star cast would be featuring for the first time in an Aparna Sen film too. The film is co-written by Ranjan Ghosh and Aparna Sen.
The producers said that they had teamed up with Aparna Sen for two reasons. One the script and second was Aparna herself. They also said that they would like to work on off-beat projects, but good scripts are rare. They are confident of Aparna Sen, as she is extremely focused and knows exactly what she wants from her actors, her technical team and her film.
Debjyoti Mishra has done music of the film. There are three songs in the film, with one of them based on Sunil Gangopadhyay’s poem “Smritir Shahar’.
Iti Mrinalini is a semi-autobiographical. The film portrays the arbitrariness of life. The film is currently under post production. Dubbing was held in Kolkata and Mumbai over two phases. It has been dubbed in Hindi as well. Initially the film was supposed to be released in June, 2010, has now been delayed.
