New York, Nov 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The famous comedian Mo’Nique has taken up a tough task in her new movie ‘Precious’. The fun loving comedian has taken up a strong mental challenge to play the role of Mary Jones - the vicious, abusive mother in the critically acclaimed film “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.”

The actress told People: “Coming from being molested as a child, when director Lee Daniels said, ‘I need you to be this monster’, well, I knew who that monster was.”

She managed to fulfill her acting requirements for the majority part of the movie, but some scenes demanded so much hate from her that she almost had an emotional breakdown. “There was one time that I got scared because I didn’t think that my mind or heart could go to that place,” the 40-year-old comedian and actress said.

Her portrayal has been so brilliant in the movie that she is being touted as a possible Oscar nominee too. About this she had to say, “Any buzz, I’m appreciative of.”

“Precious” was released in the US on 6th November and is now a rage with critics and audiences alike, since it screened at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry have signed on as executive producers.
