Former model and Matrix Reloaded star, Monica Bellucci’s Paris apartment was burgled while the actress was attending the closing ceremony of the sixty second Cannes Film Festival. While the forty five year old Italian beauty appeared on screen with her husband Vincent Cassel, the burglars made use of the opportunity to get away with more than 80,000 Euros in cash.

She was in Cannes mainly to promote her film “Don’t Turn Around.” Former Bond girl, Sophie Marceau co-stars Bellucci in the film. Bellucci’s husband Vincent Cassel is not as popular as Monica worldwide, but he is quite a star in his native France.

The other items that were stolen were jewelry and electronic items including computer and a video gear. The burglars did not leave Bellucci’s passport behind either. The nature, the timing and the mode of the burglary makes it quite clear that it was a meticulously planned and executed burglary.

Monica lives in an apartment in the fourth floor and the burglars entered the apartment through the balcony. They entered the flat and emptied it of whatever was easily accessible. The investigating officers of the 2nd Division of the Judicial Police, who are probing the matter, said that while professional football players’ homes have been burgled when they were playing high profile matches, this kind of an incident is a first for the world of entertainment.

Monica is well known for her roles in The Matrix Reloaded, The Irreversible and The Passion of the Christ, where she played the role of Mary Magdalene.
