Mom of Gabourey Sidibe Auditions For ‘America’s Got Talent’

June 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Gabourey Sidibe, who was nominated for an Oscar for her debut role in the movie ‘Precious’ which was based on a novel entitled ‘Push’ which was written by Sapphire. On an episode of ‘America’s Got Talent’ which aired on Tuesday night, Gabourey Sidibe’s mother showed the world that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

When Alice Tan Ridley, who is the mother of Gabourey Sidibe, auditioned for America’s Got Talent, the audience was very pleasantly surprised. A spokeswoman from NBC verified the story that Ridley had auditioned for the show back in April, with her own rendition of ‘At Last’.

The audience gave the singer a standing ovation, and she was voted through to Vega with a unanimous vote. All three judges were wowed by her performance, with one of them calling it ‘the best audition of the day’.

As far as NBC knows, the judges were not made aware of who Ridley was until after the audition. She simply told them that she was a singer who had been performing in New York subways for the last 2 decades.
