‘MNIK’ - first day but no first show in Mumbai

Mumbai, Feb 12 (IANS) There was no first show of Shah Rukh Khan’s much discussed “My Name Is Khan” here Friday with theatre owners shying away from exhibiting the film following violence by the Shiv Sena.
However, industry sources said that the second show - starting after 12 noon - might be taken up in some cinema halls.
The movie was slated to hit 63 cinema halls in Mumbai.
The Fun Cinemas group of multiplexes was preparing to screen the movie - there was a huge crowd of patrons at the hall amidst tight police security.
However, other multiplex and major cinema owners were closeted in a meeting with the movie distributors and the producers to sort out the issue of adequate security if they did decide to screen the film. Their decision is expected to be known later this afternoon.
The no-show comes despite assurance of adequate security for the movie screening by Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, Home Minister R.R. Patil, Minister of State for Home Ramesh Bagwe and Police Commissioner D. Shivanandhan.
Halls that did not screen the film include the G-7 cinemas, Apsara, Maratha Mandir, Dadar Plaza, Broadway and other single-screen halls.
In a related development, Revenue Minister Narayan Rane demanded that the registration of Shiv Sena as a political party be cancelled.
