miss-uneveLas Vegas, Aug 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 59th edition of the much-coveted beauty pageant Miss Universe was held with much elan in the sin city of Las Vegas on Monday night. After months of preparation, the final event of the Donald Trump owned beauty contest reached its climax at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino last night. Despite the fact that all the 83 participants hailing from different countries across the globe gave their best shot, ultimately it was the Mexican beauty Jimena Navarrete who was successful in taking home Miss Universe 2010 crown.

While the 22-year-old Jimena Navarrete reserved the top slot, Jamaican beauty queen Yendi Phillipps was announced as the first runner-up which was highest position that had ever been secured from any one from her country. 19-year-old Jesinta Campbell turned out to be the second runner-up during last night’s event while Filipino beauty Venus Raj who was considered to be one of the strongest contenders for winning the contest followed suit as the 4th runner-up. However, the 59th edition of Miss Universe wasn’t without its share of disappointment as Miss USA Rima Fakih who was one of the frontrunners for taking home the crown was eliminated at the very outset.

In the meanwhile, Australian beauty Jesinta Campbell not only reserved a position for herself in the Top 5 contestants but the teen beauty also bagged the Miss Congeniality award of the year. The rest of the two special awards of Miss Photogenic as well as the Best National Costume was registered by Miss Thailand Fonthip Watcharatrakul.
