Miss Nebraska Teresa Scanlan Crowned Miss America 2011

nebraskaLas Vegas, Jan 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It was an evening of glamor, glitz and grander as the world witnessed the gala event of Miss America Pageant 2011 in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Teresa Scanlan, the 17-year-old beauty from Nebraska took home the much coveted title of Miss America 2011 and became the youngest winner to win the crown in 90 years after defeating 52 women across United States. The gorgeous model won $50,000 scholarship as the prize money along with the crown for a year. The host of the show were Brooke Burke and Chris Harrison.

Teresa Scanlan is the youngest Miss America after Margaret Gorman, who won the prestigious title in 1921. The second runner up of last night was Alyse Eady (Miss Arkansas), who won $25,000 and the third runner up was Jalee Fuselier (Miss Hawaii), who took home $20,000. Teresa Scanlan’s pageant biography reads that the beautiful model hails from Gering. She also wants to attend law school and then become a politician. The winner looked sultry in the black bikini and then gorgeous in her white gown. In the preliminary round, Teresa Scanlan won the heart of the judges by playing “White Water Chopped Sticks” on piano and as result, she won the talent round as well.

The judges seemed to be quite impressed with Miss Nebraska and during the final round, they asked her about WikiLeaks. The 17-year-old model took the opportunity to answer the judges and said that government should pay more attention to the security than anything else. Though, according to the judges, Teresa Scanlan won the pageant, the U.S. fans voted for Miss Delaware Kayla Martell and Miss New York Claire Buffie.
