London, Nov 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to the BBC news, 21 year old Miss England Rachel Christie, the first Black lady to be crowned Miss England, gave up her title after being arrested on suspicion of committing assault at a nightclub.

They say she gave up her crown so she could concentrate on clearing her name and getting out of the mess. The Police say that she allegedly punched 24-year-old Miss Manchester Sara Beverley Jones, straight in the face when they were locked in an argument at a Manchester nightclub. The fight was over Miss Manchester’s ex boyfriend David McIntosh who is now Rachel’s current boyfriend.

Rachael was arrested, but is now out on bail until January of 2010. She has famous lineage, as she is the niece of former sprinter, Linford Christie. She is also a heptathlete, who hopes to compete in the 2012 Olympics too.

The Miss England organizers made the following statement: “Due to the media attention following the allegations against her, Rachel Christie has now decided to withdraw from the Miss World competition and relinquish her Miss England crown. Rachel will concentrate on clearing her name and focus on training for the 2012 Olympics until this case is resolved.”
